Airdrie RCMP is investigating two armed robberies in the city, one on Dec. 24, 2015 and the other on Jan. 1.

As reported in the Dec. 31, 2015, edition of the Airdrie City View, a lone male suspect entered the Liquor Depot on Main Street on Dec. 24, 2015 at approximately 5:45 p.m., took an undisclosed amount of alcohol from the shelf and threatened the clerk with a weapon before leaving. The clerk received non life-threatening injuries and was treated on scene.

According to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Francine Hennelly, RCMP has now received information that there were a number of people inside the business and in the parking lot at the time of the robbery.

“We’re hoping that the community will be able to assist us in identifying the male involved,” she said. “Also, we’d like to talk to witnesses that may have been inside the Liquor Depot and in the parking lot outside the Liquor Depot.

“We’re looking for one particular witness that we have photos of and it’s essential that we talk to that witness because they may have information for us to follow up on.”

The caucasian male witness was wearing a black hockey toque, heavy tan jacket and blue jeans. Hennelly said he was seen outside the liquor store at the time of the robbery.

The male suspect is described by RCMP as having dark hair and was seen wearing a winter vest with a black hoodie underneath, black jeans and black shoes with a white sole.

On Jan. 1, RCMP responded to an alarm at the Super 8 Motel on East Lake Boulevard at approximately 6 p.m.

“An unknown male entered the hotel and was able to attain an undisclosed amount of cash,” Hennelly said. “In the course of this robbery he used a weapon against the clerk working at the hotel.”

RCMP is not releasing the weapon that was used because it forms part of the investigation, according to Hennelly.

RCMP describes the man as approximately six feet tall with a slight build. He is believed to be caucasian, however, he wore a cream-coloured scarf to conceal his face. He was also wearing a red hat, red and white jacket, black pants and black shoes.

No one was injured during the robbery, according to Hennelly.
