A 26-year-old man from the Calgary area remains in Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary after he was transported there by Stoney Nakoda EMS ground ambulance April 25, according to Cochrane RCMP Sergeant Jeff Campbell.

“We received a 911 call at 1:50 p.m. that a man was reported with stab wounds and had been located at the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino on Highway 40 and Highway 1,” he said. “The staff called us. A male had multiple stab wounds to his arms and his legs.”

According to Campbell, the man was in serious but stable condition when he was taken to hospital. The incident is still under investigation.

“Our General Investigation Section is taking the lead on the case. We don’t believe the assault occurred (at the resort). We believe it occurred elsewhere but that’s the process of our investigation, to confirm where the actual assault occurred,” Campbell said.

According to Campbell, the victim is not being “as co-operative as we would like.”

A motive for the attack is unknown, he added. The victim is known to police; however, Campbell was not able to elaborate.

Two older couples that helped the victim into the resort have come forward and are currently being interviewed by members from the Taber RCMP detachment.

A 2007 grey Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with Alberta license plate BRS3960 is missing and Campbell said RCMP is asking for the public’s help to locate the vehicle.

Anyone seeing the vehicle is asked to not approach but to call the Cochrane RCMP detachment at 403-851-8000.

Petty thefts

A number of petty thefts took place in the Springbank area between April 21 and April 27, according to Campbell.

“The first occurred on April 21 in the Springbank Calling Horse Estates area,” he said. “A vehicle was broken into and CDs, a radar detector and some DVDs were taken.”

There were no witnesses to the crime and RCMP has no suspects, according to Campbell.

On April 26, a gearshift knob was stolen from a vehicle in the Whispering Water Hollow area in Springbank, Campbell said.

“These people do have outside surveillance so we’re looking at that, but at this time no suspects have been identified,” he said.

Also on April 26, an unknown suspect(s) broke the lock on a fuel tank at a property on McLauren Drive near the Springbank airport and attempted to steal fuel. The break in occurred sometime overnight, according to Campbell.

A commercial storage unit at 131 Commercial Court near Springbank was broken into April 27.

“There is a suspect truck involved,” Campbell said. “We do have security surveillance. The suspect has a balaclava or hoodie on but a good portion of his upper face is still seen. It’s a white Chevrolet pick-up truck with some tape on the right mirror and on the roof. He stole some items from inside the lot.”

Campbell said the license plate on the truck is not visible in the surveillance footage and RCMP currently has no suspects.
