Chestermere RCMP is looking for help to identify two men who are alleged to have broken into a home in the beaches area off West Chestermere Drive on Jan. 23, according to Staff Sergeant Glenn Henry.

According to a release issued by RCMP, the residents were home at the time of the incident and came outside to find a man taking items from their garage. They were able to chase the man off and he fled in a blue Ford F150 pick-up truck. A second man also fled the scene in a gray GMC Sierra pick-up truck. The residents were able to get the license plate number off the GMC and reported it to police who ran it through their database.

“The plate on the truck came back as stolen,” Henry said.

RCMP describe the two suspects as “black males with a lighter skin tone.” According to Henry, they are also looking for a third man who may be related to the incident.

“We had another incident in Chestermere where one of our off-duty officers saw a suspicious vehicle and approached the guys. They bailed from the vehicle and took off on him,” Henry said. “The descriptions loosely match the two (wanted suspects) and the other had a French accent so we’re linking the incidents. If anyone knows someone with a French accent – because we don’t have many French-speaking people here – we’re hoping to put all this together.”

A Ford truck was subsequently reported missing from the West Creek area of Chestermere, according to RCMP, who believe it to be the same one seen at the scene of the earlier break and enter.

On Feb. 3, Henry said Chestermere RCMP received information from RCMP in Okotoks who had retrieved video surveillance from a gas station there that they said they believed was of one of the suspects.

“The suspect was driving the gray GMC truck involved in the incident here and it still had the stolen license plate on it,” Henry said.

“We’re finding stolen vehicles, stolen license plates here from Calgary and next thing we know they’re being recovered in Okotoks so we’re hoping this picture (of one of the suspects) we got from Okotoks will tweak a memory for somebody from here who might know him so we can put all these people to rest in terms of the crimes they’re committing all over the place,” he added.

Henry said Chestermere RCMP is hoping to enlist the help of the public in identifying the man in the surveillance photo.

“I think we’re just at the start of beginning to identify a ring. We want people to know that thefts are occurring in our community and in other communities. These people (doing the crime) are very transient and we have a picture of someone we’d like to know who it is,” he said.

“If someone comes forward with information, it will help us put a stop to these individuals from doing this in other communities. Have a look at it, ask do you know this guy, and let us know.”

Highway 9 Collision

A 22 year old from Kindersley, Sask., was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with serious, non life-threatening injuries after Beiseker RCMP allege he ran a stop sign at Highway 9 and Highway 564 at 6:45 p.m. on Feb. 9 and collided with a semi tractor-trailer. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Sergeant Glenn Demmon said the man could face charges, depending on the outcome of the investigation. Officers in Beiseker are being assisted in the investigation by the RCMP Traffic Analysis unit.

According to Demmon, the man was temporarily trapped in his vehicle before crews were able to extract him. Traffic on Highway 9 had to be rerouted for several hours while emergency crews cleared the scene and RCMP conducted their investigation.

If you have any information on any crime, call your local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
