An 18-year-old Airdrie man has been arrested following a break and enter.

Police allege Ryan Marsland broke into an Airdrie residence on Aug. 31 with a sleeping female resident inside the house. She called police who responded at about 11:15 p.m.

It was the sound of glass breaking that awoke the woman and when police arrived it was determined the front door had been smashed.

Authorities located the man hiding underneath the basement staircase and he was arrested without incident.

Marsland has now been charged with forcible entry, being unlawfully in a dwelling, mischief under $5,000 and trespassing at night.

Three different police units within the Airdrie RCMP detachment arrested siblings Robert and Kurt Meidl, Sept. 9.

The Airdrie men were caught trafficking a controlled substance, according to police. Both were charged with 14 drug- and weapons-related charges.

RCMP officials said the investigation was “extensive” and the arrests were conducted without incident.

Police said they observed multiple hand-to-hand exchanges of drugs and money during the investigation.

A search warrant executed at a rental residence in Mackenzie Pointe turned up more firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun, and knives.

Police also seized seven grams of crack cocaine valued at $710 and a small amount of marijuana.

Airdrie RCMP responded to a reported child abduction, Sept. 12.

Witnesses saw an adult forcing a young boy into a silver four-door car in the Willowbrook neighbourhood. Police responded, conducted interviews with neighbours and eventually learned the suspect was actually a parent dealing with an unruly child.

“The parent of the child was just attempting to place him in the vehicle and kids sometimes don’t necessarily want to go,” said Const. Robert Frizzell with Airdrie RCMP.

“They by no means used excessive force, and they had to put him into the vehicle. It’s simply a parent trying to get their little guy into the car.”

Frizzell said the RCMP takes these calls very seriously and the right thing was done from a civil standpoint.

“We want to ensure parents are having those conversations with their kids,” he said. “If they see suspicious behaviour, call it in. Don’t fear that it will cause us inconvenience.”

If you have any information on unsolved crimes, contact the Airdrie RCMP detachment at 403-945-7200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
