Police look for two men in connection to vehicle break ins

RCMP are asking the public to help identify two suspects wanted in connection to several break and enters in Cochrane.

On May 16, between midnight and 5:30 a.m., multiple vehicles were broken into in a residential subdivision in Cochrane. Wallets containing credit cards and cash were stolen and later used at various locations in Cochrane and Olds.

RCMP have identified two men, captured on video surveillance using the stolen cards. The first is described as Caucasian, 18 to 21 years of age between 5’6” and 5’8” with short dark hair, wearing a dark ball cap, multi-coloured and multi-patterned hoodie jacket and jeans. The second man, also Causcasian and between 18 and 21 years of age, is between 5’9” and 5’11” with short dark hair, wearing a dark-coloured American Eagle hoodie, a dark-coloured T-shirt, a light-coloured belt and jeans.

Police are reminding the public not to leave any valuables inside vehicles and to ensure vehicles are locked with the keys removed.

Fatal accident

A 62-year-old Calgary man is dead following a motorcycle crash on Highway 66, about three kilometres west of Elbow Falls.

On May 20, just after 1:30 p.m. Cochrane RCMP along with emergency services responded to the collision.

Police believe the man, driving a motorcycle westbound along the highway, left the road and collided with the guard rail. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Police said they do not believe alcohol or speed are factors in the crash.

Speedy youngster

A 15-year-old teen faces four charges after getting pulled over near the Crossfield overpass on May 20 for driving 77 kilometres an hour over the posted speed limit.

The black Nissan Altima was spotted travelling southbound on Highway 2 going 187 km/hr.

When the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) member pulled the car over, the accused female attempted to switch positions with the front seat passenger in order to hide the fact that she did not have a driver’s license, police said.

As a result, the Red Deer teen is faced with the charges of speeding 77 km/hr over the posted limit, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without having a license and failing to provide proof of vehicle registration.

Motorcyclists

The Airdrie ITU also pulled over two motorcyclists near the Crossfield overpass on May 18 driving 30 km/hr over the posted limit.

However, when an officer, riding a Harley Davison police edition motorcycle attempted to pull the two speeders over, only one stopped.

The driver of a yellow Yamaha R1 stopped for the police, while a blue 2011 Suzuki GSX R750 fled southbound on Highway 2 at a high rate of speed, police report. The officer contacted his partner who was further south on Highway 2. The second officer was successful in apprehending the driver who at that point, was travelling at 180 km/hr.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Calgary now faces charges for speeding and failing to stop for a peace officer.

The driver of the Yamaha, a 22-year-old man from Calgary, has been charged with speeding and operating a motorcycle without holding the proper class operators license.
