Jean-Guy Vincent, a representative of the Quebec Pork Producers Federation, was recently elected as the new chair of the Canadian Pork Council (CPC).
A hog producer from Sainte-Seraphine, Que., said he is looking forward to working with members of the CPC in the coming year.
ìThe Canadian hog industry is a vital contributor to the countryís economy,î said Vincent. ìI am honoured to have been chosen to help shape the future of our industry, and look forward to working with my colleagues to address the many challenges and opportunities we will meet over the next year.î
The key challenges for the industry in the coming months are the value of the Canadian dollar, availability of feed grain, consumer preferences, the trade environment and the uncertainty that comes with the future.
Vincent will be joined by vice-presidents Rick Bergmann, from the Manitoba Pork Council, and Florian Possberg from Saskatchewan Pork, as elected officials for the next year. The CPC serves as the national voice for hog producers in Canada. A federation of nine provincial pork industry associations, the organizationís purpose is to play a leadership role in achieving and maintaining a dynamic and prosperous Canadian pork industry.
