A 32-year-old Calgary man was killed in a collision on Highway 1 near Cochrane Sept. 22 at approximately 11 p.m.

According to Cochrane RCMP Corporal Matt Pumphrey, the man was driving an Infiniti SUV when he drove into the path of a semi tractor-trailer unit and the two vehicles collided.

Pumphrey said the semi unit was heading east on Highway 1 and it’s unclear which direction the other driver was heading.

“If he was going the other way (west) he would have had to cross the ditch in the middle,” Pumphrey said.

The man was declared deceased on scene. Pumphrey said all possible causes are being investigated.

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Highway collision

A 34-year-old woman from Cochrane was sent to hospital in life-threatening condition after she was involved in a collision on Highway 22 near Cochrane Sept. 23.

Pumphrey said the woman was driving a Toyota SUV when she collided with a semi truck hauling lumber at approximately 7 a.m.

“She’s in stable but serious condition in hospital,” Pumphrey said, adding the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Members of the Cochrane Fire Department extricated the woman from her vehicle. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Highway 22 was closed for several hours and the RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted Cochrane RCMP officers with the investigation.

Hit and run

Cochrane RCMP officers are looking for a woman who allegedly drove into a parked vehicle outside of Walmart on Quarry Road in Cochrane Sept. 27 and fled the scene.

According to a press release, another woman parked her vehicle in the parking lot, set up a stroller and was getting her child out of the vehicle into the stroller when the woman drove into her vehicle.

“The mother quickly looked and realized that the other vehicle had also struck her stroller, knocking it over and damaging it,” Cochrane RCMP Constable Jennifer Brewer said in the release.

“Thankfully her child was still in the vehicle and there was no injuries to the mother or the child.

“The mother made eye contact with the driver and made motions for her to speak to her about the damage to the vehicle and stroller but the other driver quickly left.”

The woman appeared to be in her 50s to 60s, had dark blonde hair and was wearing glasses. She was driving a Jeep Patriot.

Motorcyclist injured

A man was flown to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance in life-threatening condition after he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 1A near Exshaw Sept. 24.

According to EMS spokesperson Adam Loria, emergency services from Canmore and Nakoda responded to the collision at approximately 3 p.m.

Loria said witnesses on scene told first responders the man lost control, was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in a nearby ditch, where he was found in critical condition.

The man is believed to be in his 60s.
