Airdrie resident Robert James Tyndall made his first in-person appearance in Airdrie Provincial Court on Aug. 22 to face allegations that he convinced a nine-year-old American girl to make sexually explicit videos.
Tyndall, 42 was arrested by members of the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit with the assistance of Airdrie RCMP at his home in Airdrie on Aug. 6.
Tyndall is charged with: accessing, possessing and making child pornography, sexual interference, sending sexually explicit material to a person under the age of 16 and two counts of luring.
He first appeared in court with a justice of the peace via telephone from the Airdrie RCMP detachment on Aug. 6 where he was released on bail and must abide by a number of conditions, including not having contact with anyone under the age of 16 and he cannot possess any electronic devices that access the internet.
Tyndall will have until his next court date on Sept. 26 to seek council and apply for legal aid
In that time, he must continue to adhere to the conditions listed above and is subject to random check-ins by the ICE unit.
Teacher’s hearing set
A sentencing and hearing date has been set for former George McDougall High School teacher, John Christopher Miller, 36.
Miller was arrested in Calgary on Oct. 17 2012 and is facing sexual exploitation charges related to an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old female student after the relationship was reported to police by a third party.
He was arrested again a month later for contacting the 17-year-old female student and was charged with breach of condition.
Miller was granted bail in February, after a month-and–a-half in police custody, but has not made an appearance in Airdrie Provincial Court.
Election (a decision on whether the case is presented to a judge and jury or just a judge) and plea for Miller has been held over fifth times in court. No one from Airdrie Provincial Court, Calgary Crown Prosecutors’ Office or Miller’s defence attorney was immediately available to comment on why Miller’s case has been held over five times.
Oct. 10 has been set as the sentencing and hearing date; election will be waived until that date.
