RCMP is seeking a man alleged to have assaulted a security guard at CrossIron Mills mall near Balzac after attempting to steal more than $500 of product from Saks 5th Avenue Dec. 2.

“When the suspect was confronted outside the store, he dropped the product,” Airdrie RCMP Constable Jennifer Weedmark said. “But he did assault the (loss prevention) officer and he did flee.”

The security guard suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault. Weedmark could not provide more details as to the specifics of the assault.

The suspect is described as a white man, possibly bald, with a dark goatee. He was wearing a white and blue Helly Hansen jacket and a dark blue Puma cap at the time of the incident.

“We did get an information file that said there’s a person who can ID him, but we haven’t confirmed whether it is the proper ID,” Weedmark said. “So it’s still under investigation and we’re going to keep it out there.”

Theft of phones

Airdrie RCMP are seeking information after five male suspects allegedly entered the Rogers Digital Communications store in Airdrie and stole several cell phones.

Using tools, the suspects broke the cables that attached the cell phones to a display case and proceeded to run out of the store, according to Weedmark.

“It was a grab-and-dash,” she said. “We’re asking retailers, if a suspicious group matching this description enters your store to advise police immediately.”

Video surveillance obtained from the scene shows four black male suspects in their 20s, along with one suspect in his mid-to-late 20s who police believe is an Asian male.

Showhome theft

Police are seeking information on two couples believed to be working together who allegedly stole the belongings of an employee while visiting a local showhome.

“The complainant was an employee (of a builder),” Weedmark said. “Two separate couples that are believed to know each other and to be working together ended up stealing her personal belongings.”

Weedmark said she could not provide more information as to the specifics of the crime so as to not influence copycat offenders.

The couples allegedly stole the employee’s belongings, which included a purse, a laptop and other electronics.

“It’s the same thing, to be on the lookout,” she said. “This was preplanned. This sort of stuff doesn’t happen very often, but we’re sending that out to showhomes, to (be prepared).”

Theft from motor vehicle

Airdrie RCMP is seeking information from the public following a theft from a motor vehicle on Nov. 20 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

A suspect allegedly gained entry to a vehicle by smashing the passenger side window with a rock, stealing a purse containing credit cards, a debit card, cash, personal identification and a Rolex watch. The suspect went on to use the stolen debit card at the 7-Eleven store near Luxstone.

“We always are trying to remind people, it doesn’t make it right, but try to take extra care when you’re leaving your vehicle to ensure all valuables are out of the vehicle or out of sight,” Weedmark said.

Weedmark could not confirm whether or not the vehicle had been locked prior to the incident.

Video surveillance was obtained after the suspect attempted to use the debit card to make a purchase. The suspect is described as being a white male, between 20 to 30 years of age, with a slim build and light brown hair. He was wearing a blue baseball hat, a black hoodie and jeans at the time of the incident.
