Beginner riders will have a venue to show off their jumping prowess at a local English riding equestrian event, Oct. 1.
Tristar’s annual Harvest Hunter and Jumper Schooling Show will feature both hunter and jumper classes and is open to riders of every age and varying skill levels.
“It’s a very safe and encouraging schooling-type environment, said spokesperson Debbie Pyde. “(It’s a good chance) to come out and support some of your local riders.”
The Hunter course will feature lower jumps and will be judged subjectively, while jumper classes will be scored numerically according to how well the horse attempts and clears obstacles in an allotted time.
Both classes will take place indoors at the stable with the top six riders receiving ribbons. Champion and reserve champions for each jumping category will also be named and will receive prizes including horse coolers and saddle pads.
There will also be draws for prizes donated by local businesses.
In past years, the show had about 50 riders, ages two to adult, and organizers are expecting a similar turnout this year.
Pyde said anyone interested in horses and the English discipline would find the show worthwhile. It will be one of the last chances to check out the local circuit, as the season’s end is fast approaching.
“This is the finals for the year,” said Pyde, adding that riders will receive double points at this event, an important consideration for those battling for the top spots in the circuit.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring a cash or food donation to the show for the annual Airdrie Food Bank drive. Organizers are hoping to help out the charitable organization, as they did at their Aug. 20 show, during which they collected about 80 pounds of food along with cash donations.
“I think (the Food Bank) is such a base need and I think most people can certainly relate to it,” said Pyde. “With back to school, they are really in a crunch, especially for school snacks.”
