Take some time to appreciate the woman in you on Nov. 8. Irricana’s Women’s Health and Wellness Conference promises to be a place for local women to learn, mingle, and shop for the day. The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Irricana Community Hall located at 300 First Street.

“Originally we just wanted to have an outlet for women to get together, network and take something away from it as well,” said Megan Dornstauder, Irricana Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) director.

The event is hosted by the Town of Irricana Community Services Board and funded by Rocky View FCSS in conjunction with Irricana FCSS.

The conference has been hosted in the community for at least 15 years, according to Dornstauder.

“We have probably 100 ladies in attendance. They like to come and shop, do a little bit of their Christmas shopping, mingle and come with their friends,” she said.

The event will also feature a tradeshow atmosphere, and several guest speakers.

“We try and do some education, some health and ways to empower them in their daily lives,” said Dornstauder.

The conference will start at 9 a.m. with coffee and a welcome for the first session, called Solutions To Why We Eat, with speaker Beth Castle. Castle is a dietary technician and an award-winning author. The session will deal with why people overeat, and how to handle food craving and deal with your metabolism.

Following a short break for refreshments from 10:30 to 11 a.m., there will be the second session with Castle called Egg Education in Alberta.

The second session will focus on the basics of eggs, the difference between products, cholesterol and more. The presentation will be followed by lunch and a networking session.

Keynote Speaker Michelle Cederberg will give a presentation on how to stay healthy and motivated called Energized for Excellence. Cederberg is a health and productivity expert with more than 20 years of experience.

A fourth session, Break Free with Ecstatic Dance with Roxanne Mousseau, a dancer and transformational coach, will take place at 2:45 p.m. The conference will be topped off with door prize draws at 3:30 p.m.

Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing to take part in sessions.

Registration for the conference costs $35 with an additional $10 fee for rental of vendor tables. The registration fee covers the cost of conference sessions, a light breakfast, lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

Register early as space is limited, according to organizers.

The deadline for registration is Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. The registration fee should be submitted to the Town of Irricana office at 222 Second Street.
