While he wasn’t physically present at the Irricana Town forum held at the Irricana Community Hall, Dennis Tracz “attended” via Skype.

While the internet connection failed him at times, he was able to speak with some residents about the issues that are important for him.

“I’ve always had an interest in politics and I want to make a positive impact on the town,” he said.

“I thought this would be a good time for me to get involved. For the past 14 months, there were a lot of news stories about our Town council that were negative. We need to work on our public image, focusing on the good works that happen here. It would be good for the town and just might entice economic development.”

Among his top priorities if elected would be to invoke an inclusive and transparent Town council, promote a fiscally responsible and sustainable town and collaborate with residents to make sustainable improvements to the community, he said.

“My two issues are fiscal responsibility and sustainability and an interactive communication,” he said. “Working within the budget and confronting funding constraints.

We need a plan to reach the target and ultimately, reach our goal.”

While he said he believes the Gazette, the digital bulletin board, and the town blog are welcome additions, he said a more secure way of speaking with administration and council is in order.

“What I would like to see is a confidential avenue for residents to share their ideas and concerns directly to the council, or individual councillors, not through the Town office,” he said.

“The ultimate goal would be to encourage interactive communication between residents and the council .”

As for how Tracz would attract more businesses to the downtown core and increase tourism revenue, he believes it requires partnerships with surrounding municipalities.

“I would like to see the Town explore any partnerships be it with the Province, municipalities, nearby towns and business communities, that would promote Irricana, and would benefit local businesses and our residents,” he said.

“A recent example of this is the arrival of the Airdrie Boys & Girls Club, which now uses the Crib here in Irricana to provide youth programs.”

As for why Irricana residents should vote for him, it’s simple according to Tracz.

“I’m a result-oriented individual,” he said.

“I believe my skill set could be used to secure the needs of our residents at council.”

Residents of Irricana can have their voice heard on Oct. 21 when they can vote in the new council. Voting will take place at the Irricana Community Hall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
