Airdrie RCMP alleges a couple walked out of the Sobeys grocery store on Mackenzie Way S.W. without paying the bill on Oct. 5.
According to Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis, the two fled the store with less than $100 of groceries when the debit card they attempted to use was declined.
Video surveillance was collected and RCMP describes the woman as Caucasian, in her 30s with long brown hair. She was wearing dark jeans, a dark coat and flip flops. The man is also Caucasian, in his 30s, 5’10” to 6’ tall with dark hair and some facial hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie.
Driver Arrested
A 30-year-old man from Medicine Hat was arrested in Airdrie, Oct. 30, and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, driving while disqualified, resisting arrest, failing to comply with a recognizance condition, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a license.
Steier was originally stopped during a routine traffic stop after making an illegal U-turn on Main Street. The officer ran the plate on the pickup truck Steier was driving and determined it had been reported stolen out of Red Deer.
Steier fled the vehicle but was located by officers a short time later attempting to hide under a parked vehicle.
Officers then initiated a search of the truck and found a firearm and an undisclosed amount of cocaine.
Curtis said Steier was remanded into custody and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court at an unknown future date.
Cordless Drill Stolen
RCMP is looking for a man alleged to have walked into the Sierra Springs Car and RV Wash on Main Street South on Oct. 24 at approximately 5:20 p.m. The man took a cordless drill and left the building without speaking to anyone, according to Curtis.
The theft was later noticed by staff. After reviewing the surveillance video, employees called RCMP to report the theft.
The man is described by RCMP as Caucasian, in his 50s with grey hair and a grey beard. He was wearing a grey baseball cap, sunglasses, a black jacket with some reflective stripes and blue jeans.
Curtis said the suspect was seen leaving the business in a brown Ford F-150 pick up truck.
