A natural gas line break led to a coordinated response from Airdrie fire crews earlier today, as well as the temporary evacuation of 20 residents from an adjacent multi-unit condominium complex.
On Jan. 31 at 10:56 a.m., a natural gas line was struck by construction equipment in the 1000 block of Bayside Avenue SW, according to a City of Airdrie press release.
The City stated Airdrie Fire Department crews were dispatched to the Bayside address after a three-quarter-inch/26 millimetre (60 PSI) natural gas line was struck and damaged by a large piece of construction equipment working in the area.
"RCMP cordoned off the immediate area to vehicle and pedestrian traffic," the release stated, adding RCMP cordoned off the immediate area to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
As a precaution, fire crews deployed large diameter hose lines to protect exposures, according to the City, and ATCO Gas personnel attended to the scene to quickly locate and isolate the gas supply to the ruptured line.
After approximately 45 minutes, the scene was secured and the ‘all clear’ was given for residents to return to their homes.
No injuries were reported.
