Eleven Rocky View students earn top marks on diplomas

A number of Rocky View County students have been recognized for earning 100 per cent on their diploma exams.

A number of Rocky View County students have been recognized for earning 100 per cent on their diploma exams.

Six students from Springbank Community High School, four from Cochrane High School, and one from Bow Valley High School, were honoured with plaques at the Rocky View Schools’ Board of Trustees meeting in Airdrie on Nov. 3.

“Congratulations to all the students and the parents,” said board chair Bruce Pettigrew.

“It makes us proud as trustees when we send students like you out into the world,” added Ward 5 Trustee Colleen Munro.

“It speaks volumes of all our schools,” said Ward 4 Trustee Helen Clease.

Alex Martell, Allison Suske, Nathanael Love, Justin Mansell, HeeJoo Park and Rocky Ruud were the Springbank recipients. Martell earned his perfect mark in Math 30 Pure and said his participation in martial arts has helped his studies.

“It’s a really structured environment and it helps you focus on every other aspect of your life,” he said.

Suske, who is now studying business administration at the University of Western Ontario, earned her distinction in Physics 30. Ruud scored perfectly on his Chemistry 30 exam, after previously doing the same in Physics 30.

Park and Mansell scored top honours for Chemistry 30, while Love’s was in Biology 30.

Joshua Harvey, Alexandra Rabel and Martin Levicek, from Cochrane High School, are all in the same honours class and each earned their perfect scores in Math 30 Pure.

“I’m not sure if it’s a competition, but I think it helps that we’ve all grown up and studied together,” Rabel said.

“That helped I think,” Harvey added.

Sunggu Kang, a Bow Valley student who takes the bus from Calgary every day, had 100 per cent in Math 30 Pure as well – as a Grade 11 student.

“It didn’t make a difference for me,” said Kang about the age difference in his class.
