Airdrie RCMP was called to the scene of a collision on northbound Highway 2 just south of the Crossfield overpass at 7:10 a.m. March 14 for reports of a collision involving a semi-trailer truck.

“Witnesses observed the semi-trailer truck skidding along the highway before jack-knifing across the highway,” Hennelly said.

The collision closed the northbound lanes for a short time before emergency crews could clear one lane and keep traffic moving. All lanes were re-opened by 9:45 a.m.

Snow overnight may have led to the collision, according to Hennelly.

“It is likely that the road conditions were a contributing factor, however at this time, the collision remains under investigation,” she said.

No injuries were reported.

Stolen Vehicle

A call to Airdrie Rural RCMP about the theft of a 2008 grey Honda Civic from the parking lot at the Crossfield Shell gas station March 12 has police reminding residents about the importance of locking up. The car was left running and unlocked outside the business.

“This was definitely a crime of opportunity,” Hennelly said. “The owner of the vehicle was away from the vehicle momentarily. She went in to grab a coffee and came out to a missing vehicle.”

The car’s Alberta license plate number is BHY 3386.

Sunglass Theft

Airdrie Rural RCMP is investigating a theft from the Sunglass Hut at CrossIron Mills mall in Rocky View County March 2.

Hennelly said a Caucasian man and a Caucasian woman pushing a baby stroller entered the store at approximately 12:30 p.m. and proceeded to look around and try on sunglasses. The man eventually took a pair of Prada brand sunglasses from a display and hid them in the stroller. The pair then left the store and were seen leaving the mall in a new model, white Ford Escape.

The sunglasses are valued at $480.

Recovered Mug

Thanks to tips from the public, Airdrie Rural RCMP were able to identify the man responsible for stealing a display mug worth $50 from the A&W on CrossIron Boulevard Feb. 26. Hennelly said the mug was returned to the business, which declined to press charges.
