2013 has been a good year for Crossfield. We have finished several major infrastructure projects (the largest projects in the town’s history) under budget.

We have continued to incrementally improve the look and feel of our community through landscaping and other beautification projects. We have built many new sidewalks and pathways to connect our community and improve safety for our youth and seniors.

We have continued in our commitment to take care of our existing facilities, such as new furnaces in the Community Hall and a new roof and façade for the Library/Golden Key Club.

All these improvements have been accomplished while staying true to our resolve to keep property taxes tied to the rate of inflation. In addition, our economy continues to improve through residential and commercial and industrial growth.

On a personal level, our Town has overcome hardship. We experienced a very serious bus crash on Oct. 25 and watched our neighbours deal with the fear of losing members of their families. Our community came together to support each other. I felt proud to live in a community that was so quick to put aside the lesser things of this world to care for one another. We have been extraordinarily blessed to have not lost anyone during this crisis.

Crossfield is a special community with a bright future. We say goodbye to a very productive and at times difficult 2013 and look forward with hope and optimism to 2014. Our council wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
