Crossfield community peace office moves into United Church with administration

Crossfield’s community peace officer has new digs.

Crossfield’s community peace officer has new digs. Don Luft was previously located at an office on Railway Street, but since the lease for that space expired, staff and council moved him to the United Church at 1005 Ross Street, so he can be in the same building as municipal staff.

“Being in the same space helps with communication,” said Luft, who has been in his new office for about a week.

Town staff is relatively new to the space having just moved there last May. Council moved to the church to consolidate more of the departments in one location including parks and recreation, office administration and now the community peace officer.

The decision was made to lease space from the church instead of building a new civic centre which could cost $2 million.

In an interview last year, Mayor Nathan Anderson said council didn’t want to build a civic centre with borrowed money and by moving to the church, they could take “baby steps.”

CAO Cheryl Skelly said Luft’s, his cell phone number and email address has not changed but the office number is now 403-946-5565.

The church continues to provide programming, moving its classes, offices and storage to the east side of the building.

Council meetings are held in the church sanctuary on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
