The Crossfield byelection is heating up for the vacant seat left by former councillor Jason Harvey.
Mike Perry, a member of the community of Crossfield for close to a decade, is going to try and bring a wealth of knowledge to council and ideas to help address issues within the community, should he be elected on June 1.
“The biggest issue I feel Crossfield is facing is our ability to safely control the growth while maintaining our small town feeling,” Perry said. “Right now, I’m certain that council is on the right path and I look forward to learning and growing with them.”
The 52-year-old family man has been a big advocate for the growth of youth in Crossfield. He has coached minor hockey and served as a board member before running for council. Being a parent himself, Perry understands the need for Crossfield to provide a positive influence and direction for younger community members.
“Enhancing the beauty of the town reflects the pride the locals feel for their community,” he said.
Perry, who has worked as an accountant for more than 20 years, said he has experience in assisting both businesses and individuals in creating start-up plans and helping them maintain stable financial direction.
Perry is concentrating his attention on Crossfield such as town infrastructure and safety as well as the community’s future growth.
“(Crossfield) is a place to feel safe,” Perry said. “A place to raise your family. Most importantly, a place to call home.”
Although he has no background in running for council, Perry said he is well informed on the issues that face the community and is a strong advocate for local homeowners, while upholding community standards.
The Crossfield byelection takes place on June 1.
Other declared candidates include Devon Helfrich and Shawn Vang.
