Councillor brings up need for new generator

Deputy Mayor Larry Martin reported the need for an updated generator at the water plant.

Deputy Mayor Larry Martin reported the need for an updated generator at the water plant.

According to the report presented by Martin and the public works department, the current generator, which would be used in an emergency situation, will be unable to power the water plant once the facility upgrades are completed.

Council will make a final decision on what to do with the outdated generator at a later date, though it was recommended a few minor repairs be made.

“We will be attaching a small generator to the emergency management trailer to power it in remote locations and keep another generator available at the Town office should that one fail,” explained Martin.

“Other additions to the trailer, including a small heater and some required supplies, will also be added to the inventory.”

Recreation improvements

Irricana council met Nov. 5 and made quick work of addressing a number of minor issues facing the town.

Council heard a request by CAO Alvin Melton asking for repairs to be made to the local skating rink, which he says has become a safety hazard due to decaying wood.

Council also agreed to erect new playground signs along 1st Ave. at both ends of Centennial Park.

Library board

New appointments to the Irricana Library Board were also noted, with Judy Unsworth taking the helm as chair, Carol White as treasurer and Trisha Wade as secretary.

The position of vice chair still remains vacant.

The board also brought to the table an outline for monetary investments, choosing to place $23,000 into a cashable GIC, $5,000 into an operating T-Bill account and a technical reserve of $1,000 that would be put into a second cashable GIC.

Those interested in the position of vice president can get more information by contacting the Irricana Library at 403-935-4818.

New website launched

Two representatives from the Calgary Regional Partnership (CPR) made a brief stop in Irricana to present to council a brand new website.

The site will allow businesses and commercial developers to find property for sale in Rocky View County.

The site, which is currently being used by 250 municipalities, is designed to make the searching of available property in more remote and rural-based communities easier for larger developers and site selectors.

In addition to being able to find commercial/office, industrial/warehouse, and commercial/industrial real estate opportunities, visitors to the site can get detailed reports on the demographics, consumer expenditures and labour force of a selected community.

The CPR website is still being worked on, but it is currently up and running at www.explorecalgaryregion.ca
