Rocky View County Council approved an application to rezone agricultural land near Conrich to allow for residential development, June 8.
The 33-acre plot is on the north end of a quarter section, which is part of the South Conrich Conceptual Scheme, but is separated by the Canadian National Railway.
A large residential development is planned for the area, which is identified as a growth node in Rocky View County’s Growth Management Strategy.
The re-designation of the lands north of the tracks and the subsequent separation of title to these lands is necessary to advance with the development of the lands to the south. For now, the rezoned land will continue to be farmed. Any further development will require future re-designation approvals, including an amendment to the conceptual scheme.
Rocky View County proclaimed June 2010 to be Recreation and Parks Month at its meeting, June 8.
Recreation and Parks Month is being celebrated across the province, as part of an Alberta Recreation and Parks Association initiative.
The goal is to draw public attention to the important and varied benefits of recreation to individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities across the county.
According to council, the benefits to the community are numerous. Recreation participation builds family unity, strengthens community development and volunteerism, enhances social interaction and creates community pride, according to the staff report.
