Construction on the Bearspaw Emergency Services Centre, located southeast of the intersection of Highway 1A and Highway 766, is expected to begin at the end of this year.
During council Oct. 30, of four acres of land donated by the RockPointe Church was redesignated from Ranch and Farm District to Public Services District to allow for the development.
“This is an important project for Bearspaw and we are thankful we can have a part in meeting the needs of the community, which is what we are all about,” said Geoff Bygrave, elder for the RockPointe Church after council.
Representatives from the church and County started discussions in 2011 on how to divide the land.
The proposal was brought to council in July and council directed administration to proceed with finalizing the agreement.
Second and third reading was approved unanimously by council on Oct. 30.
On July 1 of 2013, an agreement with the City of Calgary to provide primary fire response services to the county expires.
“We are very happy to move forward with the emergency services facility,” said Rocky View Fire Services Chief Ken McMullen.
“Now that we have certainty regarding the location of the station, we can now begin construction and plan to provide an enhanced level of emergency services for the community.”
Preliminary site improvements have recently begun at the RockPointe Church and the project is expected to take 15 months from the start of construction.
