Cochrane company Dynastream Innovations donated 10 Global Positioning System (GPS) units to Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park on April 11.

Dynastream CEO Shane Gerdis noted the company’s staff felt that the donation would be a good way to support the work of park stewards.

“It’s a good way for them to track exact locations if they need to help or find someone,” said Gerdis. “These units will be very useful in their daily work.”

Park stewards will use the units during park patrols to identify the exact location of any problems they encounter, allowing them to perform maintenance and education duties more easily.

“This is a very kind and appropriate donation,” said Chief Park Steward and Cochrane resident Frank Hennesey.

“This allows the location to be quickly and accurately passed on to park authorities.”

The park’s stewardship program is comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers from Cochrane, Rocky View County and Calgary who assist in research, stewardship, maintenance, education and outreach initiatives.

The park is a 1,300 hectare expanse of foothills parkland located south of Highway 1A between Calgary and Cochrane along the north shore of the Bow River.

The park officially opened to the public last August, making it one of the province’s newest provincial parks.
