Chestermere residents are encouraged to have a Night Out at the recreation centre on March 29 in support of Chestermere High School.
“Funds raised go to just about anything that parent council is asked to pay for,” said Sue Wood, chairperson of the parent committee.
All funds raised go back to the school and student population. Parent committee also helps fund requests from Chestermere High School’s culinary arts program, for school-wide awards and equipment.
This year marks the third year parent council has organized the annual fundraising event, called a Night Out. The first year entertainment was provided by comedians, Wood said.
“Last year, we had a hypnotist and this year we’re having a dance with a live band called Red Dawn and a silent auction,” she said.
Guests will also be entertained by Chestermere High School’s talented students for the first hour of the evening.
“When guests first arrive, look for their seats and silent auction items, the Chestermere High school band is going to play for a little bit,” Wood explained. “And then the drum line is going to perform, and students are going to do a couple of numbers from the musical theatre production they have coming up.”
The Night Out is a big event for parent committee fundraising.
Last year the parent committee raised $5,700 from the Night Out event and it expects to raise more this year
Some of the funds raised will go towards sending student to the provincial Skills Canada competition in Edmonton EXPO Centre May 14 to 15. Students compete in competitions for culinary arts, carpentry, aesthetics, auto service and electrical installations among other events.
Another aspect to the Night Out event is a silent auction, with fabulous prizes including tickets for the school’s musical theatre, ladies golf clubs, Calgary Symphony tickets and gift baskets donated by local businesses, among other things. Students in Chestermere High School’s CTS classes make items for the silent auction as well. In past years, Wood said they’ve seen beautiful benches, end tables, “and the most beautiful cutting boards you’ve ever seen,” she said.
The Night Out takes place at 7 p.m. on March 29, at the Chestermere Regional Recreational Centre. The parent committee will be providing a midnight lunch and free ride home to guests who may need it, at the end of the evening. Tickets are $20 and can be picked up at the high school or through Wood at [email protected] or 403-936-7857.
