Airdrie RCMP officers are warning residents to be cautious when giving out personal information after two people in Airdrie recently used someone’s identification to apply for a credit card.
According to Airdrie RCMP Constable Jennifer Weedmark, officers were contacted by a person in Ontario who said someone had accessed their personal information to obtain a credit card from Canadian Tire in Airdrie Oct. 17.
Officers determined a man and woman applied for a credit card using the person’s identification and made a significant purchase on the card. They were captured on video surveillance.
Weedmark said the public is reminded to protect themselves against fraud by shredding documents with personal information and checking financial statements often. Weedmark also advises residents not to give out credit card information over the phone or Internet.
Collision
A 22-year-old Airdrie woman was charged in a collision at the intersection of Eighth Street and Yankee Valley Boulevard at approximately 7 p.m. Nov. 29. Weedmark said the woman was charged with making an unsafe left turn, but declined to release her name.
“A Civic was travelling southbound and a Dodge Jeep was travelling northbound at the intersection of Yankee Valley and Eighth Street. The Civic made an unsafe left turn and essentially T-boned the Jeep and the Jeep rolled over,” Weedmark said.
The driver of the Jeep received minor injuries from the collision.
