Calgary Police Services (CPS) said they are looking for witnesses to a single-vehicle collision involving an Airdrie man that occurred at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5 on Stoney Trail approaching Peigan Trail in the city’s south.
The driver, a 49-year-old man from Airdrie, was critically injured in the collision and remains in hospital, according to CPS.
Some witnesses have stepped forward and told police they saw the man, who was driving a GMC truck, drift off the road as he was travelling southbound. According to police, the truck collided with a road sign, causing a small fire in the driver’s side compartment. Passersby were able to extinguish the fire and call 911, according to CPS.
A media spokesperson with CPS, said investigators are still determining the cause of the accident, however, speed and alcohol are not considered factors. She said they are hoping to gather more information as witnesses step forward and will then determine if charges are warranted.
The man was the lone occupant of the vehicle, according to the media spokesperson. His name is not being released at this time.
