Airdrie RCMP is investigating a break in to the parking garage at The Edge condominiums on East Lake Boulevard in the early morning hours of Nov. 17, that resulted in the theft of items and damage to a number of residents’ vehicles.

Police allege a man and woman gained entrance to the parking garage using a garage door opener, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis.

“Damaged windows. I believe some of the windows may have been damaged (as the thieves) attempted to get into them,” he said.

A resident noticed the theft and contacted RCMP who reviewed video surveillance footage supplied by the condo complex.

The man is described as Caucasian, 5’11” to 6’ tall with a medium build and wearing a black coat, dark jeans and brown boots as well as a grey hat with red writing on it.

Surveillance footage of the woman was very poor, according to Curtis. All that is known is that she is 5’3” to 5’5” tall with a slender build and dark blonde hair and was wearing boots.

“Nothing of major value (was stolen),” Curtis said. “Change, GPSs, things like that. (It was) all petty theft in nature. It’s the damage to vehicles that’s concerning.”

The cost of repairing the damaged vehicles is being determined by each resident’s insurance company.

Laptop Lifted

Two people are alleged by RCMP to have stolen a laptop from Cervus Equipment on Crosspointe Road in Rocky View County on Nov. 7.

According to Curtis, a man hopped the fence around the yard at the business at approximately 1 p.m., entered the building and took a laptop from an office desk. He then fled with a woman driving a blue Chevrolet Cruze car.

Airdrie Rural RCMP is investigating the theft and describe the man as Caucasian in his mid to late 30s. He has a shaved head and was wearing a white shirt, grey zip-up hoodie, black pants and black shoes.

Video surveillance was provided to RCMP by the business. The vehicle has a front license plate from either Ontario or British Columbia.

Scam Warning

RCMP is warning residents to be wary of a scam involving a woman telling a hard-luck story to solicit money from trusting individuals.

According to Curtis, RCMP responded to four complaints over a 24-hour period on Nov. 18.

“To our knowledge, nobody fell for them,” he said. “We’re just advising people to be wary and cautious. The best in us wants to help and unfortunately sometimes there are people out there who will try to take advantage of that.”

According to Curtis, the woman also claimed to have called 911 later that evening requiring assistance due to a domestic dispute.

“We did identify this individual because members did go and speak to her. She was not involved in any reported domestic incidents,” Curtis said. “She was not involved in any reported traffic collisions. She did not interact in any professional capacity with the two officers that she’d named.”

The woman has not been charged with any criminal offenses and therefore her name is not being released for privacy reasons.

Shoplifter

A minor case of shoplifting at the Airdrie Canadian Tire store on Veterans Boulevard Sept. 12 is being investigated by RCMP.

A man entered the store at approximately 5 p.m., opened a display case – and in the process damaging the lock – and made off with a Dyson-brand vacuum cleaner.

Staff reviewing the store’s video surveillance footage reported the theft to police.

The thief is described as Caucasian, in his 30s. He is approximately 5’10” tall and 170 pounds. At the time of the theft he was wearing a black Metal Mulisha branded ball cap, a dark grey coat, dark pants and white sunglasses.
