After eight years of service, Beiseker Councillor Brenda Hnybida has resigned for personal and health reasons.

A letter announcing Hnybida’s resignation was made public at a regular council meeting in the village, Oct. 24.

“It is with a heavy heart that I submit this letter of resignation for my position as councillor with the Village of Beiseker,” stated the letter, penned by Hnybida. “I have enjoyed my eight-and-a-half years immensely and it’s been great working with all of you. I am proud to have been a part of such a productive team. I wish you well and will miss all of you.”

Hnybida held an active role on council, as chair of the Museum Society, Family and Community Support Services and the Beiseker and District Recreation boards.

She was also a driving force behind the recently completed main street beautification project, skateboard park and the formation of the Beiseker Parks and Trails Committee, a group working to create pathway connectivity throughout the village of 840 residents.

According to CAO Joanne Lambert, Hnybida was very “pro-staff” and as a mom, brought empathy and compassion to council as well as a youthful, family-oriented perspective.

“She is very passionate about Beiseker, she always wanted the best for the village,” said Lambert. “It was nice that she brought the female perspective to council.”

Mayor Bruce Rowe said Hnybida will be missed by her peers.

“I am going to miss her for sure,” said Rowe. “She was great on council. She was outspoken when it came to her committees, but she was very cooperative.”

Hnybida said the decision was tough, because she really enjoyed being a councillor.

“We were a really good team,” she said. “We weren’t always on the same page, but we always had the same goal in mind. It was fun.”

Hnybida is grateful for the support she received from Beiseker residents over the years, she added.

Nominations close on Nov. 7 for the upcoming by-election, to be held Dec. 5, which is required to fill Hnybida’s position.

Lambert encourages residents to consider the job.

“The commitment level is not as onerous as some people think it is,” she said.
