The Beiseker Fire Department will soon be getting a new fire rescue unit, thanks to a generous donation.

Encana gave the department $20,000 towards replacing the aged unit, May 31.

“It has been a long anticipated wait. We are very excited and very happy that we can move forward to upgrading much needed equipment,” said Roxanne Martin, assistant fire chief.

The Village of Beiseker will also assist in purchasing the unit. Residents have been donating to the fund for at least five years.

“It was a community initiative,” said Martin. “Everyone is really excited.”

The new unit will have a generator for lights and will carry all the necessary medical and rescue equipment. The new vehicle will seat four members as opposed to the two that their current vehicle can fit.

“We can assist the Village much better with updated equipment,” said Martin.

The Village will receive the new rescue unit by the end of the year, allowing quicker response times.

The Beiseker Fire Department serves the village of Beiseker and surrounding areas. It has 27 volunteer members.

The department works in conjunction with Kneehill and Airdrie Emergency Medical Services.
