Alberta man dies from COVID-19

On Thursday afternoon during a press conference, Alberta Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw said an Alberta man has died from COVID-19.

“I must also sadly report the first death from COVID-19 in our province,” Hinshaw said.

The man was in his 60s with an underlying health condition.

This man was admitted in the ICU in the Edmonton zone on March 12 and passed away late yesterday.

“This is extremely sad news and all of us involved in Alberta’s COVID response feel this very deeply. All of our thoughts are with this man’s family and loved ones. AHS assures me they are supporting them in this difficult time,” Hinshaw said.

“As heartbreaking as this news is, it was expected. This is a dangerous virus."

There have been an additional 27 people confirmed to have COVID-19 overnight in the province, bringing the total to 146 people in Alberta confirmed to have the virus to date.

According to statistics from AHS, St. Albert has two people confirmed to have COVID-19.
