Happy New Year, it’s a girl!

Madeline Annelise Dykxhoorn may have been nine days early when she was born at Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary on Jan. 1 at 8:40 a.m., but her parents had been waiting for her for a while.

“She is number four but the first girl,” said proud mom Kim, 29.

“Her brothers are beyond excited. They keep saying, ‘she’s my baby, no she’s my baby.’”

Kim and her husband Dan have lived in Airdrie for almost eight years with sons Nathaniel, 8, Reuben, 4, and Jesse, two-and-a-half.

“The boys all want to help out with their little sister,” said Kim.

Kim is a stay-at-home-mom and Dan, 36, works in downtown Calgary as a systems administrator.

“We are very ecstatic to finally have a little girl,” said Kim. “Dan can’t stop smiling and now I’m not so outnumbered.”

Although they finally got their girl, Kim says the family may welcome more new members down the road.

“We are going to take it one day at a time,” she said with a laugh. “We feel blessed and very thankful that she is here.”

The little one, who was just over 20 inches long and seven pounds, 10 ounces at birth looks like her mom and has a very “calm and cool” personality so far.

“Maybe it’s because she knows that she gets all new stuff and doesn’t have to have hand-me-downs,” said Kim. “Our lives are going to get more crazy but also more fun.”
