It wasn’t a very merry Christmas for some local criminals who instead got a lump of coal in their stockings as police moved in to arrest them over the holidays.
According to the Airdrie RCMP, its Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) arrested 20 offenders involved in local thefts in Rocky View County and the City of Airdrie during a crime reduction operation in the month of December.
The CRU worked in coordination with local Loss Prevention Officers to arrest and apprehend the accused.
Charges against the 20 offenders, who have not been named individually by police, are primarily related to theft, shoplifting, and stolen vehicles. The operation resulted in 20 new criminal code charges, and the execution of 38 outstanding warrants, for charges including robbery, possession of stolen property, failure to comply with conditions, failure to attend court, breaking and entering, theft, and drugs.
Thanks to the operation, the Airdrie RCMP CRU were able to recover nearly $35,000 worth of stolen property and return it back to their rightful owners before the holiday season.
