Fatality in Beiseker collision identified as woman from Red Deer

A head-on collision between a semi tractor unit and a passenger vehicle claims the life of a 51-year-old Red Deer woman.
Airdrie RCMP secured the area after human remains were found east of Airdrie on May 4.
The driver of the car, a 39-year-old male resident of Red Deer, was taken to hospital by EMS with serious life threatening injuries. The passenger in the car ,a 51-year-old female resident of Red Deer, was deceased.

A 51-year-old woman from Red Deer died on scene of a two-vehicle head on collision near Beiseker on Tuesday evening, according to RCMP.

She was the passenger of a sedan which was confirmed to be driving east bound in the west bound lane when it was struck by an oncoming semi tractor trailer.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old male resident of Red Deer, was taken to hospital by EMS with serious life threatening injuries.

RCMP received a call at 10:38 p.m. of a collision on Highway 9 at Range Road 252 on Jan. 2.

Fog was heavy at the time of the collision and may have been a factor, according to RCMP.

Alberta RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff stated that RCMP arrived on scene of head on collision between a semi tractor unit and a passenger vehicle.

"A passenger from that [sedan] was treated at scene, however, died on scene," Savinkoff said. "A second occupant, the driver of that vehicle, was taken to hospital with injuries."

The driver of the semi tractor trailer unit was unharmed.

RCMP remained on scene for several hours investigating the collision.

Alberta RCMP offered their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased via media release.

The highway was shutdown for several hours as emergency services responded but fully re-opened on Wednesday morning.
