UPDATE: One fatality and one in hospital after crash near Beiseker

Airdrie RCMP responded to a head-on collision between a semi tractor unit and a passenger vehicle.
Airdrie RCMP secured the area after human remains were found east of Airdrie on May 4.

A passenger of a sedan died on scene of a two-vehicle head on collision near Beiseker on Tuesday evening, according to RCMP.

The driver was sent to hospital.

RCMP received a call at 10:38 p.m. of a collision on Highway 9 at Range Road 252 on Jan. 2.

Alberta RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff stated that RCMP arrived on scene of head on collision between a semi tractor unit and a passenger vehicle.

"A passenger from that [sedan] was treated at scene, however, died on scene," Savinkoff said. "A second occupant, the driver of that vehicle, was taken to hospital with injuries."

The driver of the semi tractor trailer unit was unharmed.

It has confirmed that the passenger car was driving in the oncoming lane of the semi tractor trailer unit when it struck.

Names will not be released but RCMP will update the public on the the age of the deceased and where they are from.

The highway was shutdown for several hours as emergency services responded.

On Wednesday morning, it was reported that the highway was fully re-opened.
