On Jan. 18, members of the Airdrie Rural RCMP detachment and Crime Reduction Unit arrested a male and female who were suspected of stealing a vehicle and gasoline.
Mounties responded to the CrossIron Mills shopping district, where they were able to locate the suspect vehicle and determine it had been stolen from a business in Calgary.
"Officers were able to safely arrest a male and female when they exited an area store," a press relase from Airdrie RCMP stated. "The arrests were made after suspects stole additional property from the store."
A search of the stolen vehicle resulted in break-in instruments, stolen license plates, and methamphetamine being found.
Once identified, police determined the female had an arrest warrant and was violating the conditions of her release order.
Maryann Smith, a resident of Cupar, Sask., was brought before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody. Smith is scheduled to appear in Airdrie court on Jan. 26.
She faces multiple charges, includnig possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, shoplifting under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, possession of break-in instruments, and five counts failure to comply with a release order.
According to RCMP, the male was also found to be violating a release order for charges originating from the Calgary Police Service.
Kyle Vaughn, a resident of Calgary, was brought before a Justice of Peace and released on a $3,000 no cash release order. Vaughn is scheduled to appear in Airdrie court on Feb. 23.
His charges include possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, 0ossession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, shoplifting under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of break-in instruments, and six counts failure to comply with a release order.
