The U17 AAA Airdrie Cannex Avalanche's season came to a disappointing end this weekend in Leduc at the 2024 Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) U17 AAA provincial tournament.

The Avalanche, who entered the as potential favourites after going 4-1 in two previous playoff rounds, failed to win a single game in the round robin of the provincial tournament.

On Thursday, to open the tournament, the Avalanche led the St. Albert Raiders Flyers after two periods, but let the lead slip away in the third to finish with a 6-4 loss. In their second game of the day on Thursday, the Avalanche took on the host LJAC Techmation Oil Kings, but fell 5-3. Friday saw Airdrie take on the Calgary Flames, an Avalanche rival who finished in first place in the south division. The Flames stomped the Avalanche 7-2.

The Avalanche's final game of the tournament was a 4-1 loss to the Sherwood Park Squires on Saturday, pushing the Avalanche to last place among tournament teams. Airdrie was the only team that failed to record a win at provincials.
