A March 6 fuel spill in front of a King's Heights Road residence has invesigators wondering where it originated from.
The Airdrie Fire Department responded to the residence in the city's southeast at around 12:30 p.m. and determined an unknown amount of diesel fuel had spilled onto the roadway, according to a release from the City. The melting snow and ice had aided in the fuel travelling approximately 100 yards down the road and into the sewer system.
"Firefighters initially deployed absorbent pads and booms to contain and collect contaminates before they could enter an adjacent natural water feature," according to the release.
Staff from Public Works and Municipal Enforcement attended to assist with initial investigation and mediation efforts, while Water Services monitored the underground stormwater system to determine how much of the infrastructure had been affected.
"A Rapid Response HazMat team was dispatched to assist the fire department with removal and disposal of all contaminated materials," the release stated.
As no vehicle was found on the scene when crews arrived,, according to the release, the direct cause of the spill remains unknown.
