Council dropped its currently wastewater off-site levy bylaw in preparation for a cost-recovery structure, March 5.
During the meeting, Stuart Jewison, operations manager for Rocky View, told council the current bylaw is outdated.
It was created in 2006 and was designed to recover the cost of County-financed wastewater infrastructure from developments receiving service through it.
The levy is designed to cover costs based off land area and this has led to inequalities because the amount of infrastructure a particular development uses doesn’t always correlate with land area, a report to council explained.
Councillor Lois Habberfield wanted to know how the County will recover costs without the off-site levy.
Jewison said conditions can be placed on development approvals to collect appropriate funds.
He added the new model will likely be presented to council within the month.
Council unanimously passed all three readings of the bylaw.
