The Town of Irricana's May 17 byelection will see five candidates vie for a single seat on council.

Five candidates will vie for votes in Irricana's byelection next month.

The five individuals who are seeking a seat on Town council in the May 17 byelection include Jim Bryson, Nathaniel Fleming, Stephanie Katelnikoff, Jeremie Page, and Julie Sim.

The byelection seeks to fill a vacancy on council left by former mayor Frank Friesen, who announced his resignation from the role last month. Friesen recently moved to Beiseker, which disqualifies him from maintaining his council seat in Irricana.

Voting day is May 17, and the main polling station will be Irricana's Town office at 222 2 street. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For voters who cannot make it out that day, or who simply cannot wait that long before casting their ballots, advanced voting will be held May 10 at the same location from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

As of press time, Town staff could not confirm if or when an all-candidates forum would be held in the lead-up to the byelection.

After the byelection, council will hold a vote among themselves at a subsequent meeting to determine who will serve as the town's mayor.
