Concession stand at Pete Knight Memorial Arena has not been operating for the past two years. The Town of Crossfield would like to change that.

After a few years of vacancy, the Town of Crossfield is looking for a vendor to take over concessions at the Pete Knight Memorial Arena.

“The concession at the arena hasn’t actually been running for a couple of years now,” explained Eris Latham, recreation and event coordinator with the Town. “It is something we would love to see brought back. I feel like the concession is really part of the winter sport atmosphere. It is wonderful for kids when they get done a hockey game to grab a snack or something. For a lot of the tournaments right now, players are having to get out of their equipment and leave the arena to find something to eat.”

Latham acknowledges there are some challenges with manning the concession as it is right now, a main difficulty being that cooked food cannot be prepared in the facility, as it doesn’t have proper ventilation or fire suppression.

Anyone taking over the concessions would have to prepare hot food offsite and bring it in using warmers, but Latham said the Town is seeking to make renovations as soon as it is feasible to do so.

“It is something very much on our radar to do that,” she said.

In the meantime, the Town has put out a Request for Proposals to hopefully find a contractor that would be willing to take the concession on this year to provide that amenity to families coming in for hockey tournaments or other events at the Pete Knight Memorial Arena.

“They can all stay and hang around with their family, and they don’t have to find a place in town to go to,” said Latham. “It always a treat; especially for the kids who are playing multiple games a day. Having time to visit around the tables with your friends over a snack is always part of the (hockey rink) lifestyle.”
