The Rotary Club of Airdrie will be hosting its annual Charity Golf Classic at Woodside Golf Course July 28. Previous years’ tournaments were held in September.

The Rotary Club of Airdrie is moving up its ninth annual Charity Golf Classic, giving golfers the chance to enjoy the mid-summer sun on the green July 28, at Woodside Golf Course.

As always, the golf tournament is a fundraiser to support the club’s projects throughout the year.

“We want to raise about $25,000, which we intend to put to good work among the various charities we support,” said Dale Rathgeber, president of Rotary Airdrie.

From the Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie and Kids Up Front to Meals on Wheels and the Airdrie Food Bank, the Rotary is responsible for raising about $150,000 each year for a number of organizations within the Airdrie community.

“It’s one more opportunity, at a larger scale, to show what we do for the community,” said Anita Lemke, an organizer for the tournament. “It’s where we bring in significant funds for support throughout the year.”

Rathgeber, who said he’s a big golfer, is excited to get out and win the tournament, but Lemke claimed she is bound for the top prize. Regardless of skill level, she added, anyone is welcome to compete. The club aims to reach about 140 golfers participating in the event, and currently sits at 80.

The tournament will also include fun side games, Lemke said, including who can drive a marshmallow the farthest, or who can stay out of the water or sand the most. A banquet is included with the $175 ticket, and a silent auction with items donated by local businesses will be running throughout the tournament.

“It’s the weekend before the long weekend, so a lot of people will hopefully still be hanging out in Airdrie, and I believe that local businesses should want to support our community,” Lemke said.

She added individuals or groups looking to join can reach out to her to register at (403) 771-8771 or [email protected]
