Students and staff at Herons Crossing School will welcome a new principal come the fall, as Andrea Craigie takes over the role, according to a Rocky View Schools (RVS) press release.

Craigie, the release states, is a veteran of RVS and has served as teacher, assistant principal and principal in the jurisdiction since 1993. Prior to taking on the principal role at Ralph McCall School, which she has held since 2014, she was a member of the school communities of Conrich, École Airdrie Middle, Meadowbrook, R.J. Hawkey and Ralph McCall.

“During her tenure with RVS, Craigie has built a reputation as an instructional and visionary leader who promotes strong employee commitment through relational approaches, including recognition and celebrations,” the release stated. “Valued for her creative mindset, over the years she has helped lead several innovative initiatives, from the introduction of R.J. Hawkey’s LENS program to the re-visioning of libraries to learning commons.”

At the jurisdictional level, according to RVS, Craigie has served on numerous committees dealing with policy development, human resources, learning and professional development. She also served as a member of the ATA Local 35 Executive from 2001 to 2011.

The release states Craigie holds a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Calgary, as well as a bachelor of education specializing in elementary social studies and special education. A lifelong learner at heart, according to RVS, in 2018 she earned a Human Resources Management Certificate.

Craigie will follow in the footsteps of Suzanne Martin, the school’s current principal, who, according to an April RVS release, will move to principal of Nose Creek Elementary School. The same release indicated current Bert Church High School Principal Laurie Johnston would move to Herons Crossing, but a subsequent release in early June indicated Johnston will now be taking over the principal role at George McDougall High School.
