During the holiday break, when your children are home from school and some of you may have taken time off, we here at Airdrie Public Library (APL) would like to point out the many good things stuffed into that thin piece of plastic called your library card.
That free library card gives you access to a huge virtual bookshelf of online resources that will cater to the taste of just about every person in your household.
For starters, our online preschool programs are always available.
Our programmers have created wonderful online literacy opportunities featuring Babytime, Creative Hands and Minds, Sing Read and Rhyme, Bedtime Storytime and much more.
Our latest preschool Mighty Machines videos are also online and can be viewed anytime and often as you like.
School-aged programs, such as Full Steam Ahead, Crafternoons, and Star Wars Reads Day are also available, along with Infant Massage, Storyshare Project, and our Writer-in-Residence sessions for adults.
APL also has a bevy of eResources, ranging from eBooks and eAudioBooks, and online resources such as Flipster, Freegal Music, Hoopla, and OverDrive/Libby.
For those who may be unfamiliar with some of these online resources, Flipster provides access to current magazine titles without loan or wait lists, Freegal is a free music service with access to over 15 million songs, Hoopla offers half a million streaming titles ranging from movies, TV episodes, music-albums, eBooks, comics, and audiobooks, while Libby provides a vast collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks for all ages including popular fiction and nonfiction.
Also, high up there on the list of ways to keep your young children busy during the school break is the fabulous TumbleBook Library.
TumbleBook is an online collection of animated, talking picture books, educational videos, puzzles, games, just for kids.
So, your library card is quite literally stuffed with all sorts of holiday goodies.
