Library Link: It's the people who make a library

We believe APL is an inclusive landmark destination in our growing city, one that engages the mind, strengthens community, and enhances the quality of life for all Airdronians. This idea is at the heart of our mission statement, which can be found on our website.

APL connects Airdronians to service groups like Community Links.

One of the joys of working at Airdrie Public Library (APL) is the tangible feeling that this really is a community hub.

Every day, you’ll hear many different languages, see people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and witness the universal language of children – laughter – as they play and learn.

We believe APL is an inclusive landmark destination in our growing city, one that engages the mind, strengthens community, and enhances the quality of life for all Airdronians. This idea is at the heart of our mission statement, which can be found on our website.

It’s easy to think of the all-ages programming APL offers, which if you’re a frequent user of the library, you’ll know fill up fast when registration opens.

Preschool, school-aged, youth and teens, and adult programs and events are eagerly anticipating a new library facility with way more room.

However, APL also has many other services that, while not as glamourous as children’s programs, nevertheless enhances the lives of those who take advantage of them.

Free computer and internet use, printing and print disability services, a multimedia station, a cozy chair by the fireplace, library tours, room rentals, exam proctoring, the largest art exhibition space in Airdrie, and many more in-person and online services create an accessible and engaging experience.

APL’s frontline staff often act as information triage specialists, determining a patron’s needs. Whether it’s their first library card, or technology help, or assistance with government websites and printing documents, our staff are skilled at leading patrons in the right direction.

Of course, part of an effective information triage is to know when to direct a patron to other Airdrie community services. APL has a long relationship with groups such as Community Links, Rocky View and Wheatland Employment Services, Rocky View Schools, and many others that serve our community.

It’s these connections to people and with people that make a library a community hub.
