If you love books, libraries will make you happy.

Libraries, including Airdrie Public Library (APL), have tens of thousands of books, DVDs, Blu-rays and computer games from the latest potboiler fiction to the newest Xbox game.

Library shelves contain endless possibilities, and if you’ve ever perused one, you’ll know what we mean.

Book titles beckon to you with the whispered promise of adventure, mystery or otherworldly exploration, and all one must do is pull the book from the shelf to reveal its secrets.

No other place in the world is like a library, where all the knowledge, wonder and treasures of the known universe await you.

If you love computers, libraries will make you happy.

APL has several public access computers and a 27-inch iMac loaded with Adobe Creative suite, all physically distanced and cleaned after every use.

For people who can’t afford a computer, this is a big deal, as it provides access to email, word processing and online resources for job hunting, immigration and renewing or ordering official documents.

In keeping with providing access to learning, APL also has pre-loaded tablets for preschool and school-aged children to borrow.

If you love seeing your children read, libraries will make you happy.

Research shows that children who experience the joys of literacy at an early age are better prepared for success in school and throughout life.

APL has a broad collection of books for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, juniors and young adults, and hundreds of titles are added weekly.

Whether you drop by to browse the shelves or use our curbside pick-up service, the joy that comes from discovering what’s hidden in the pages of a book will inspire your child for the rest of their life.

Yes, there are many things in a library that stir feelings of happiness – the people who work in them and the connection to community, but most of all, it’s the idea of a library itself that brings happiness.

They are for everyone.
