Today’s public libraries are thriving hubs of technology.

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), the integration of the digital world into the patron experience and our programming has become normal.

Anyone has access to our free Wi-Fi and public computers, and APL card holders can register for all sorts of tech-focused programming and events.

We recently held our 2nd Annual Tech Fair, in which more than 280 people attended to experience the thrill of piloting a drone, working with robots, and experiencing virtual reality.

Starting this week, APL has a list of tech programming for even the most devoted user.

It’s important to note that many of our tech programs are generously sponsored by the TD Bank Group.

Minecraft EDU, 3D Drawing, VR Gaming, and 3D Penmanship are supported by TD and offer a wide range of tech experiences for all ages and skill levels.

Minecraft EDU is a five-week series where participants will learn real world skills in a virtual world.

3D Drawing, for youth, and 3D Penmanship, for adults, explore basic shapes in 3D.

VR Gaming is an experience you won’t forget. Schedule a 25-minute session in a VR headset, and you’ll see the world in a whole different way.

Other tech programs include Cyber Safety with the Airdrie RCMP discussing how to stay safe online.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is for adults and is a thrilling VR experience involving solving a bomb puzzle before things go kablooey.

Digital Paint Night is for those wishing to explore digital painting techniques, and perhaps one of the cooler tech programs coming in November is Your Guide to Streaming.

Held in partnership with Legends of Logomancy, a Canadian content creation group specializing in D&D and other TPGs, participants will learn how to use Twitch, YouTube, and other streaming platforms.
