Golden Cinnamon restaurant pledges support for Airdrie Dads group

“There are so many deserving charities in Airdrie, and we felt that the Airdrie Dads would have a good pulse on the more dire needs of the community that we might not be aware of, and that they already know which groups are experiencing financial hardship,” said the restaurant's co-owner, Ricky.

The Airdrie-based Facebook group ‘Airdrie Dads’ are continuing their good work through the Christmas season.

To date, the group of more than 3,600 Airdrie fathers have collectively raised and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars directly and indirectly over the past three and a half years.

“These are all good men, collectively helping each other become better men,” said Keith Wilkinson, one of nine admins of the private men’s group. “There’s no specific agenda for the group other than to give each other advice on how best to be good role models and good fathers."

Fundraising efforts are not tied to any specific organization, according to Wilkinson, but instead look to support funding gaps in local not-for-profit organizations and events.

The latest addition to the group's fundraising efforts – that include everything from online auctions to golf tournaments – featured an offer from a new local restaurant, Golden Cinnamon. Wilkinson said the Silver Creek-based restaurant has pledged 10 per cent of its December sales to support the Airdrie Dads' fundraising efforts.

“This includes dine-in, take-out, Christmas or New Year parties, and catering to office meetings and parties within Airdrie,” he said. “This could end up being a significant contribution to our overall efforts to help our community.”

Golden Cinnamon owners Ricky and Harri are excited to be participating in the initiative. The two owners, since their grand opening in September, have already made charitable contributions to the Airdrie Food Bank, Airdrie and District Victims Services (ADVAS), and the Thumbs Up Foundation.

“There are so many deserving charities in Airdrie, and we felt that the Airdrie Dads would have a good pulse on the more dire needs of the community that we might not be aware of, and that they already know which groups are experiencing financial hardship,” said co-owner, Ricky. “We have a small party room for smaller office parties of 35 or less or for larger organizations, we can seat up to 150 people, (following REP Protocols).

“We can also cater to businesses and parties. We hope people will consider us and by doing so, will be contributing indirectly to the community’s needs.”
