Countdown on for Airdrie Mayor's Night of the Arts this Saturday

The final countdown for the 2023 Airdrie Mayor’s Night of the Arts is nearly complete, and the event’s long-awaited return is shaping up to promise an evening of great fun, great food, and great entertainment on Feb. 11 at the Bert Church LIVE Theatre.

The final countdown for the 2023 Airdrie Mayor’s Night of the Arts is nearly complete, and the event’s long-awaited return is shaping up to promise an evening of great fun, great food, and great entertainment on Feb. 11 at the Bert Church LIVE Theatre.

“We have six amazing presentations to make to the lucky winners in different categories,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “We have entertainment extraordinaire. When you come in at 6 p.m. there are going to be nice drinks. There is going to be amazing food and hors d’oevre served with dessert from local business and restaurants.”

Featured performers this Saturday include country music star Julian Austin, SPARQ Productions Bollywood dance company, and Northcott Prairie School’s drama department, just to name a few.

“As far as entertainment goes, we are going to have cultural entertainment as well as some famous individuals from our community who have done really well internationally,” stated Brown. “I would say it is a very good mix.”

But, of course, said Brown, the showcase for the evening is to promote and celebrate the vibrant arts scene that exists in Airdrie. The Mayor’s Night of the Arts celebrates local artistic excellence, said Brown, and gives everyone in the community an opportunity to experience it first-hand, whether they are artistically inclined or not.

“I wasn’t very art-driven when I was younger,” explained Brown. “I have realized there is really art in everything. I discovered drawing and painting about five years ago. I had never really done it in my life, but now it is something I look forward to and enjoy. I hope this (event) will be contagious … I hope it opens up the eyes of someone who otherwise does not think of themselves as being part of the arts group.”

This year marks the first Airdrie Mayor's Night of the Arts since 2019, as the event has been cancelled due to COVID-19 in the three years since.

Tickets were still available as of writing, but time is running out, according to Brown.

“I really encourage people to get their tickets in advance and give our caterer the opportunity to make sure we are buying food for the right amount of people,” he stated. “This event is also not possible without our sponsors so we really want to send our appreciation to them as well.”
