Airdrie residents who are looking to dispose of electronics, cleaning products and more can recycle them properly May 4, during the City of Airdrie's household hazardous waste round up barbecue at the Airdrie Recycling Depot.
Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., residents can stop by with 'hazardous' items that should "never be placed in residential waste and recycling cards," according to a press release issued by the City. Not only will they be able to ensure their paint, batteries, aerosol cans and more are being disposed of correctly, the release states, the first 100 residents to show up will be able to enjoy the free barbecue.
However, even those who don't make it in time for lunch can still take advantage of the opportunity to recycle their waste – and might find themselves rewarded for their efforts to protect the environment.
"Anyone who brings household hazardous waste to the round up will be entered to win a free family pass to Genesis Place Recreation Centre," the release stated.
While the round up will run for just three hours May 4, the Airdrie Recycle Depot – located at 21 East Lake Hill – will be open regular hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hazardous materials can be recycled at the depot year-round, and residents can find out exactly which items should go in which bins, or which facility, on the City's website.
