Airdrie RCMP investigating e-scooter collision resulting in injured youth

Airdrie RCMP announced in a press release on July 28 they are investigating an e-scooter collision that occurred in the Midtown neighbourhood on Wednesday evening, July 27.

Airdrie RCMP announced in a press release on July 28 they are investigating an e-scooter collision that occurred in the Midtown neighbourhood on Wednesday evening, July 27.

According to the press release, the incident was reported at 9:20 p.m., with both RCMP and emergency medical services (EMS) attending to the scene for an injury collision.

"A youth was reportedly struck by a vehicle while operating an electric scooter on a sidewalk," read the press release. "The youth was transported by EMS to urgent care and has since been released having sustained minor injuries."

Though alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision, an investigation is ongoing.

"Airdrie RCMP would like to remind the public to use care when operating e-scooters and for drivers to be cognizant of small vehicle traffic including e-scooters," the press release continued.

E-scooters were introduced to Airdrie in July, as part of a pilot project approved by City council earlier this year. The two companies providing the e-scooters include Bird and Neuron.

Those with any information regarding the incident, are encouraged to contact Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
